CARMEL --April 28, 2007 Super Bowl is journey from God for this Colt
By Katie Merlie Indianapolis Star
Tarik Glenn may be a Super Bowl champion, but the Carmel resident takes
more pride in his love and commitment to God, his wife and children.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Sonia Leerkamp gave the invocation, Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard welcomed guests to the breakfast, and Fishers Town Council President Scott Faultless and Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear read Scriptures from the Bible.
Growing up in California, Glenn said he never thought he'd have the chance to speak in front of community leaders. "After you win, people always ask what it's like to win the Super Bowl, " Glenn said. "God took me through the journey it took to get me here."Throughout his life, he's reflected on his life's purpose, his impact in life and what the journey means to him. The father of four said he takes one hour each day to reflect on his purpose in life with God, and his life isn't all about football and being a member of a championship team.
"The reality is the things we do doesn't make us, but God makes us who we are," he said. Glenn also spoke of his goals to bring hope and revelation to lost people, his commitment to helping those in need in the community and encouraged all the men in the audience to go out and make a difference."I hope that God plants a seed in the heart of men,#034; he said. Bruce Backofen, a member of the Connecting Businessmen to Christ, said Glenn is a true champion of the Lord.
"He shared a simple, but true Gospel message," he said. Glenn, who credits Colts coach Tony Dungy as one of his heroes, also said he didn't like himself very much at one point in his life, and he had a false sense of security when he wasn't in touch with Christ. "Christ took a hold of my life," Glenn said. "He gave me all the security and confidence I need.
